My 40-Day Fast

Matthew 17: 20-21 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, “Why could not we cast him out?” And Jesus said unto them, “Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
- The purpose of my fast is to rid myself o Type 2 Diabetes, allow my body to heal itself, rebuke the devil and his plagues on my health (Currently I’m 115lbs overweight), and draw closer to Jesus Christ.
June 22, 2008 – First day of Fast
Easy day – thought about food for a while but did not fall into the temptation of eating. Took a few supplements and consumed 8-10 glasses of distilled water for the day.
June 23, 2008 –
Woke up this morning thinking to myself, “I made it through day one why not push it another day…” I slept well better than I did for the past few weeks. I did not feel hungry at all today. My wife Ramona is also fasting with me…she is really struggle today – wanting to eat but held out. I am proud of her. I took a few supplements this morning and consumed 8-10 glasses of distilled water throughout the day.
June 24, 2008 –
Day three of my fast!!! No problems with hunger or temptation to eat. My wife is really hurting but holding out. She wants to eat but with a little encouragement she is hanging in there.  Loads of energy and didn’t feel tired at all today.  I took my supplements and consumed 8-10 glass of water throughout the day.
June 25, 2008 –
Day 4 of my fast!!! I had some thoughts about food but no intense cravings. There was a moment when I heard a voice speaking to me; it said, “You can go to the store and get a Hershey’s Candy Bar…” I responded by saying, “Nah, I am doing too well to stop now…” Was that the devil or a demon tempting me to eat?  Amazing what you hear speaking to you when you stop and listen. Thank God for giving me the strength to not obey the voice that spoke to me. 

I surfed the internet and read a few fasting blogs and learn a lot from others who fasted for 30-40 days. From what I can tell there are tons of physical and spiritual benefits.  I cannot wait to experience what Jesus has in store for me during my own fast. There were a few moments that I thought about food but it did not shake me one bit. I found myself thinking about last year when I was hospitalized and nearly died. I was told by the doctor that I type 2 diabetes was the cause and my blood sugar level was nearly 700. Although I changed my diet and doing much better, there is not a day that goes by without thinking about having diabetes.
Before starting my fast - Jesus told me get the weight off and eat foods that will cure you and provide better health…”Fruits, Veggies, Nuts, Whole Grains, and Fish… After this fast, I am done eating anything that will not sustain my health. My goal is to maintain my weight at 115-125 pounds. This will totally cure my diabetes. I don’t think I mention it but I am not taking any meds or insulin for my diabetes.  I am controlling it through diet…since I am fasting my blood sugar levels should drop considerably.  I felt calm and at peace throughout day and my mind is at ease.
